UPDATE!! Rambo & Princess Have Been Adopted!! 〰️

When they were reunited, their sullen expressions and

lethargy turned to wide, open-mouthed smiles as they

wiggled, bounced, and jumped for joy.

“When the Man waked up he said, ‘What is Wild Dog doing here?’ And the Woman said, ‘His name is not Wild Dog anymore, but the First Friend, because he will be our friend for always and always and always.’” — Rudyard Kipling.

While Rudyard Kipling gave us great stories such as The Jungle Book and The Man Who Would Be King, he also had a special bond with our furry friends long before we realized they were our friends. Kipling recognized and celebrated canines. They were invited to bask in the heat of his hearth fires and take up room in his heart.

Before Cesar Millan, Kipling took “the road not taken,” and found a friend in a canine. Maybe Robert Frost would have been more comfortable on that road with a protective, loyal, and loving furry companion, and maybe he would have taken the road long before he did and not made such a big deal out of it!

My column HAS NOT morphed into a dog column, so thanks to readers for your patience. The inspiration for this Saturday’s column was birthed out of my last piece, “Thank God for the Little Things.”

In hopes of getting a glimpse of my poor STILL incarcerated pup Sophia, I ran across Rambo and Princess. The furry, four-legged duo melted my heart.

Rambo is a sweet, honest fellow who offers love and loyalty in exchange for the promise of a home for himself and his sister:

My name is Rambo. I am a sweet pit bull who is neutered, and I weigh just under 100 lbs.

I’m super handsome, if I do say so myself, and have good manners. I’ve been told I am humble and gracious in all the love that I am given.

I know Stacy, Sophia’s mama. Stacy has taken a special interest in me and Princess. Secretly I think she really likes my adorable sister. (Everyone loves Princess.)

Princess depends on me so much that we are a package deal, I am my sister’s keeper. Everyone says she’s so sweet and man do they say she’s beautiful. She’s a pit bull, so naturally she’s super smart (like me).

Princess is the sweetest girl ever. She is playful and loving but depends on me due to her partial blindness and deafness. We are inseparable, and we need a home to adopt both of us.

We are looking for a calm home that will help my little sister adjust.

Princess and I offer love, loyalty, devotion, and unconditional kisses. We love watching kiddos and are a happy duo.

However, due to Princesses’ special qualities, we would be better suited in a forever home without other animals and children. We’ve spent most of our 8 years outside, so we may need some extra direction getting used to our families’ interiors.

We are smart and can adjust to the family that has love and heart to give. We have a lot of extra love to give!

I overheard our kennel mama, Kiyo (PSM, KPA-CTP), talking about us and this is what she said.

“Moms aren’t supposed to pick favorites, but Rambo and Princess hold a very special place in my heart. They arrived October 22, scared, confused, and dirty. Initially, we housed them separately. It became apparent that they were both struggling on their own, so I decided to house them together in one of our larger kennels.

“When they were reunited, their sullen expressions and lethargy turned to wide, open-mouthed smiles as they wiggled, bounced, and jumped for joy.

“When Princess first came into the shelter, she had a severe head tilt and was struggling with her hearing and balance due to a ruptured eardrum. The comfort and support of having her big brother by her side has no doubt helped her recover and has given her the confidence and strength to come out of her shell and show us all her amazing personality.

“They are a sweet duo with incredible enthusiasm for life. Princess loves to chase balls and Rambo likes to watch and cheer from the sidelines. She will often gallop over mid-game to give him kisses and body bumps.

“Princess and Rambo are truly two of a kind. They have lots of extra love to give and will make some lucky person’s house a home.”

We really rely on the NoCo staff, volunteers, and donations to keep us comfortable and feeling loved.

The shelter has an event coming up on 12/16 called Whisker Wonderland where all adoption fees will be waived for any of us that are over a year old. That means we are free to a good home!

Princess and I will have our fees waived so our forever family can spend the extra money that would be used on new beds and toys. Essentially all our friends a year old or older will also have their fees waived at both the Evans and the Larimer Loveland campuses.

This is a great time to #adoptdontshop a friend looking for a family. Remember gifting pets is not responsible without extra consideration, time, and especially a fitting home. We need a yard, a place to play, and a family that has time to devote to us.

If you’re interested in loving one of us but can’t take me and Princess, check out my buddy Mojo. He is 11 years old and still has so much life and love to give to a family. He does well will other doggos and kiddos.

Mojo is in Loveland. Princess and I are at the Evans campus. Stop by and meet us!

To ensure our forever family is set up for success and help us transition from shelter life to your loving home, Scott (the community outreach manager) and staff will provide the following benefits: medical attention, specialized care if needed, preliminary vaccinations, microchip implants, and we’ve been spayed or neutered.

There are so many of us in need of donations, volunteers, and adoptions; dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, roosters, horses, and chickens (unlike Noah, I’m sure I’m forgetting a few).

Check your community for animal rescues to see what you can do to help! Keep NoCo Humane www.nocohumane.org and Big Bones Canine Rescue www.bigbonescaninerescue.com on the top of your list if you have a little extra love to give this holiday season!
